The Practice
Flecktura is a design studio working across urban design, landscape architecture, and planning.
We work on complex projects shaped by context, people, constraints, and intent. Our role is to translate these conditions into clear spatial outcomes that can be built, used, and experienced.
By working across disciplines, we move between planning, design, and implementation as one continuous process, ensuring ideas remain consistent from early strategy through detailed design and delivery.

The Name
Flecktura is inspired by the idea that places are created much like a painting, through the accumulation of countless individual marks that together form a greater whole.
Every project is shaped by a collection of influences: the aspirations of clients, the voices of communities, the expertise of consultants and contractors, the craft of builders, and the character of the site itself. Together, they contribute flecks to the process.
The name Flecktura reflects this belief. It represents the coming together of many ideas, decisions, and actions into a singular outcome, a place that is richer because of the many hands and perspectives that helped shape it.
The Founder
Sheryl Fishel is the Founding Principal of Flecktura, trained as a landscape architect and planner with over 10 years of experience. She is a licensed Landscape Architect in Washington, Oregon, and Maryland, and a certified AICP Planner. Before founding the studio, she led design and planning work across residential, commercial, and public sector projects, bringing an integrated approach to complex developments and large-scale sites.
She has seen how applying her expertise as both a planner and a designer throughout a project leads to stronger, more coherent outcomes. This expertise ensures that every project’s identity and results are fully realized.
As a practitioner and consultant, she believes her role begins with creating the stage, and for people to bring a place to life.
